Nothin' But Love

NOTHIN’ BUT LOVE

The sound of a basketball dribbling across the Emmanuel Christian School gym causes an echo as it travels across the court. The steady beat intensifies with each pounding dribble until there is just silence and time seems to come to a halt and Christopher Savoy Jones, just 15 years old, collapses to the floor. He is conscious but it is obvious to Savoy’s coaches that he needs an ambulance as soon as possible. His father who is a part of the ECS coaching stands by his side. Several long hours pass holding on to hope and then Savoy Jones passes away.

Devasted by the tragic loss of their son, this family turned their grief into action. Savoy was deeply impacted by his faith and it is what has created purpose for Jones family. He spoke with his dad on several occasions about how he wanted to give back to his school. As a result, the Christopher Savoy Jones Commemorative Scholarship was created with Mr Stickler at Emmanuel Christian School. Determined that Savoy would always be a part of them forever, family and friends come together each year to celebrate at the Annual Savoy Jones Scholarship Benefit in the spring. It is a two day event that is months in the making. Savoy’s older sister, Christina, heads up the planning committee and enlists the help of the community to make this event a success each year. Vendors and business come together to contribute resources and raise enough money to pay for an entire year of education for one special senior to attend the private school. Savoy may have departed in body in 2013 but he is still alive and well today through his legacy. Last year (2019), the benefit reached their goal and gave their son an even louder voice by donating the excess funds the wounded warrior project.

In wake of the 2020 Covid Crisis, his parents, Chris and Sophia as well as his devoted sister Christina Jones continue to show their love for their son and their community by canceling this event for the 2020 year. This is a decision that I am sure is a painful and difficult one on another level. However, after getting to know them last year I can not imagine any other course of action for this family, they would never want to put anyone else at risk to endure the pain they still carry with them. So as Mother’s Day approaches and Sophia’s 60th birthday, I am asking everyone to have show some tenderness towards this family and donate to her son’s legacy.

This is not about the amount you can donate, it is about showing this family nothin’ but love. I have included the links below to his benefit page as well as as direct link to the school’s donation link to make it simple. Either one will get to them.
